Number Chain
Start from a number, then another step comes — + 8, − 13, × 3, ÷ 4 — each worked on your last answer. Type the new total and the next step is already waiting. How far can you carry it in a minute?
Number Chain trains working memory as well as arithmetic: every step is applied to the total you just typed, so you carry the running answer in your head. How far can you take it in a minute?
How to play Number Chain
- You are given a number to start from.
- A step appears — + 8, − 13, × 3, ÷ 4. Apply it to your last answer and type the new total.
- The next step is already waiting. A wrong answer clears and the same step waits.
- The chain never goes below zero and every division comes out whole.
Scoring
- Each step is worth points by its operation, more on harder levels.
- A run of right answers builds a combo that multiplies your points.
No clock
- Choose No clock to play twenty sums, however long they take. A wrong answer still only breaks your combo, and a no-clock game keeps its own best, apart from the minute’s.
Tips
- Say the running total to yourself as you type it — it is easier to keep.
- Multiply and divide by splitting: × 3 of 47 is 3 × 40 plus 3 × 7.
- Choose one operation to drill, such as subtraction, before playing them mixed.
Play it with friends
- On your own, against the characters — each plays the game by its own rules the moment it starts, so there is always somebody to beat.
- With friends, each on their own phone or laptop: one of you shows a code, the others type it in, and everybody gets exactly the same game on the same Go.
- Taking turns on one device — pass it round, and each turn is scored against the turns before.
