About FinClamp

Last updated: 23 August 2026

FinClamp is an independent suite of 38 financial calculators and 66 written guides, covering loans, deposits, investments, tax, property and everyday spending. Everything is free, nothing requires an account, and every calculation runs on your own device.

Why it exists

Most financial calculators on the web are lead-generation forms wearing a calculator's clothes. They ask for a phone number before they show a result, they hide the formula, and the number they return quietly excludes the fees that make the deal worse than it looks.

FinClamp is built on the opposite premise: show the arithmetic, show the assumptions, and let the reader disagree with them. Every calculator page states the formula it uses and defines each variable in plain English, so the output can be checked by hand rather than taken on trust. If a number here is wrong, the page gives you enough to prove it — which is the point.

Who builds it

FinClamp is built and maintained by Raj Mohan, an independent software engineer. It is a personal project rather than a company product: there is no sales team, no partner bank, and no commission on anything the site discusses.

That independence is the reason the site can say plainly when a product is a bad deal. A site paid per lead cannot tell you that a personal loan at 16% is a poor way to fund a holiday. This one has no reason not to.

Where the formulas come from

Every calculation on the site uses the standard published formula for the instrument, not an approximation:

Area Basis
Loan EMI and amortisation The standard reducing-balance annuity formula used by Indian lenders, with the per-period schedule computed month by month rather than annualised.
Deposits (FD, RD, PPF, SCSS, POMIS) Compounding frequency as specified by the scheme — quarterly for PPF and most bank FDs, and the quarterly-rest convention for RD.
SIP, SWP, lumpsum, CAGR Future- and present-value of an annuity due, with returns treated as a constant nominal rate. Real market returns are not constant; the guides say so.
Income tax and capital gains The slabs, rebates, surcharge and cess in force for the assessment year named on the page.
EPF, NPS, gratuity The statutory contribution rates and the gratuity formula set out in the Payment of Gratuity Act.

How the numbers are kept current

Statutory rates change — PPF and EPF are reset periodically, tax slabs change with each Budget, and LTCG thresholds move. Rates live in a single dated file rather than being scattered through the calculators, so a change is one edit and every page that depends on it updates together.

Any page whose output depends on a rate that can change shows the effective date of the figure it used. If a page does not show one, the calculation does not depend on a statutory rate.

If you find an error, please report it. A wrong number on a financial calculator is worse than no calculator. Corrections are made the same week — write to contact@finclamp.com with the page and the inputs you used.

Your data

Calculations happen in your browser. The figures you type are not transmitted to any server unless you deliberately sign in and save a calculation, in which case they are stored against your account and nowhere else. The site works fully offline once installed. The privacy policy sets this out in detail.

How it is funded

By advertising, through Google AdSense, and by nothing else. There are no affiliate links, no referral fees, no sponsored placements, and no paid reviews. No advertiser has any influence over what the guides say or what the calculators return.

Ads appear on the homepage, on calculator pages beneath the written guide, and inside long articles. They do not appear on the saved-calculations library, the comparison workspace, the download page or the games section, because those screens exist to be used rather than read.

What FinClamp is not

It is not a financial adviser, a broker, a distributor, or a registered investment adviser. It does not know your circumstances and cannot account for them. Every figure it produces is an illustration based on the inputs you supplied and the assumptions the page states. See the full disclaimer.
