English practice studio
The practice studio is a place to speak English out loud with no lesson attached. Talk freely about anything, or take a topic (everyday life, opinions, work, negotiation or tongue twisters), each with a time to aim for.
Record your voice, or a video of yourself on the front camera, mirrored while you record and played back the way other people see you. Listening back is how your ear catches what your mouth is doing; watching back with the sound off shows what your hands, face and posture are saying.
Before you speak, the guided warm-up takes five minutes: stand tall, breathe low, free the jaw, wake the lips and the tongue, hum into the vowels and say one tongue twister, then read a short passage aloud, timed for its pace in words a minute.
Every take is kept in Your recordings, on this device only, in the browser’s own storage. Recordings are never uploaded, never sent to an account and never shared, unless you save a copy as a file yourself.
Topics to talk about
- Free talk: no topic, say whatever you want to practise
- Everyday: a minute about your life
- Opinions: your view, two reasons, and the other side
- Work: introductions, ideas, feedback and saying no, on video
- Negotiation: a pay rise, a price, a discount and closing a deal, on video
- Tongue twisters: slowly three times, then faster
Getting the most from a take
- Listen once for clarity: is every word finished?
- Listen once for pace: about 130 to 160 words a minute is easy to follow
- Watch once with the sound off, for your hands, face and posture
- Record the same topic again tomorrow, and compare the two
