Sudoku
Fill the grid so every row, every column and every 3×3 box holds 1 to 9 once. Only the right number goes in — a wrong one counts as a mistake. Today’s is the same for everybody; a new one comes at your level.
Sudoku is the number placement puzzle: fill a 9 × 9 grid so every row, every column and every 3 × 3 box holds each number from 1 to 9 exactly once. Every puzzle here has exactly one solution, and the daily one is the same for everybody.
How to play Sudoku
- Pick a square and type a number. Only the right number goes in — a wrong one counts as a mistake and is turned away.
- Use notes for pencil marks; placing a number clears it from the notes of every square that shares its row, column or box.
- Stuck? A hint fills one right number in.
- Play today’s puzzle, or start a new one at easy, normal or hard.
Scoring
- Each square filled is 10 points and finishing the grid is 500 more.
- Each mistake takes 20 off.
- Easy has 38 blanks, normal 47 and hard 53.
Tips
- Look for a number that can only go in one square of a row, column or box.
- Work the most-filled row, column or box first — it has the fewest possibilities.
Play it with friends
- On your own, against the characters — each plays the game by its own rules the moment it starts, so there is always somebody to beat.
- With friends, each on their own phone or laptop: one of you shows a code, the others type it in, and everybody gets exactly the same game on the same Go.
- Taking turns on one device — pass it round, and each turn is scored against the turns before.
