Questions people ask
How much does working from home actually save?
Commute costs, eating out at lunch, and some clothing — commonly ₹8,000 to ₹20,000 a month in an Indian metro. Against that, electricity, internet and heating or cooling rise, and home-delivered food often rises more than people expect.
Are there costs to working from home?
Yes: a chair and desk worth using, higher power and internet bills, and sometimes a larger home to accommodate a workspace. Over a year the equipment is a one-off and the utilities are not.
Can I claim a tax deduction for working from home?
A salaried employee in India generally cannot claim home-office expenses; the standard deduction is intended to cover employment costs. A reimbursement from your employer under a formal policy is treated differently. Self-employed professionals can claim a proportionate share of actual expenses.
