About the Fuel Cost calculator
Free Fuel Cost Calculator to calculate daily, monthly, and yearly fuel expenses based on fuel price and vehicle mileage. Plan your transportation budget and track fuel consumption for cars, bikes, and commercial vehicles.
How the maths works
Fuel Cost Calculation Formula
Fuel Cost = (Distance ÷ Mileage) × Fuel Price
- Fuel Cost
- Total cost of fuel for the given distance
- Distance
- Total distance to be traveled (in km)
- Mileage
- Vehicle's fuel efficiency (km per liter)
- Fuel Price
- Current price of fuel per liter
A worked example
Daily Commute Fuel Cost
| Fuel Price | ₹100/liter |
| Vehicle Mileage | 15 km/L |
| Daily Distance | 50 km |
Daily Cost: ₹333, Monthly: ₹10,000
How to use it
- Enter current fuel price per liter
- Input your vehicle's mileage (km/L)
- Choose daily or monthly calculation
- Enter distance traveled
- Get detailed cost breakdown
What it accounts for
- Calculate daily and monthly fuel costs

Questions people ask
How do I calculate the fuel cost of a trip?
Distance divided by mileage in km per litre, multiplied by the price per litre. A 400 km trip in a car doing 15 kmpl at ₹105 a litre costs about ₹2,800. Add a margin for traffic — city mileage commonly runs 20% to 30% below the highway figure.
Why is my real mileage worse than the claimed figure?
Manufacturer figures come from standardised test cycles. Real driving adds traffic, air conditioning, load, tyre pressure, and short trips where the engine never reaches efficient temperature. A shortfall of 15% to 25% is normal.
Is a diesel or CNG car worth the premium?
It depends entirely on annual distance. Divide the extra purchase cost by the per-kilometre saving to get the break-even distance, then compare with what you actually drive. Below about 15,000 km a year, the premium rarely pays back before you sell.
Does driving style affect fuel cost much?
Substantially. Hard acceleration, high speeds and idling can raise consumption by 20% to 30%. Steady speeds, correct tyre pressure and removing dead weight are worth more than most fuel additives sold to achieve the same thing.

- EV vs petrol: the full cost over five years, not just the fuel saving — EVs save ₹1 to ₹1.5 per kilometre on fuel. But the upfront premium, battery replacement risk, insurance, and resale collapse change the five-year maths considerably.
- What a car actually costs per kilometre — Fuel is the cost people track and the smallest of the big three. Depreciation is the largest, and it never appears on any bill.
